Dr. Amarjit Singh Marwah was the first Indian Dentist to settle in the U.S.A. He was born at Bhera in Shahpur District (Now in Pakistan). His father Dr. Chanda Singh was chief.

Political Life

He was also the City Commissioner of Los Angeles and the campaign manager behind the election of the first Sikh, Indian, and Asian man to the U.S. Congress.

About Dr Amarjit Singh Marwah

Born on February 4, 1926, the future dentist played basketball through school, college, and university, and earned university color when he completed his BDS course in Mumbai (then Bombay). He won the MS degree from the University of Illinois and completed DDS at Howard University in Washington DC.

In Kotkapura, he is called “pioneer of basketball in Malwa”, and because of his patronage to the sport, champions such as Olympian Tarlok Singh could emerge from the region.
